Odissi Classes

Dance is more than just an activity; it's a way of life that lets us appreciate the synergy of our body and mind. It offers a pure means of connecting with ourselves, others, and the world around us. Classical dance forms are highly structured and demand discipline, patience, and self-forgiveness. However, it also enables us to unlock our body's true potential and escape from worldly pressures. By joining our dance community, we can share in the joy of movement with like-minded individuals.

All classes are conducted twice a week. Dancers are expected to complete a minimum of 8 classes a month. All dancers are encouraged to attend extra classes (at no additional fees) to enhance their understanding and practice of Odissi.

WHAT WILL BE MY INVESTMENT FOR THE CLASSES?

At the start of each month, students are required to pay a monthly fee of RO 30/-. As a gesture of goodwill, new students are offered a free trial class before enrolling in the classes. We do not provide any refunds for missed classes, however, dancers are encouraged to attend additional classes with other batches to compensate for any missed sessions. We offer discounts to siblings and mothers who enroll together.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO CLASS?

We recommend wearing loose, cotton clothing that allows for comfortable stretching during class. Ideal attire includes Cotton Salwar Khameez or Kurta and leggings. Senior dancers are encouraged to wear dance saris. It is recommended to always carry a dupatta (stole) to drape around yourself during class.

  • Notebook 8”x10” (for dance notes only) and a pen or your Deepam Notebook

  • Bottle of water

  • Hand Towel

  • Ghungroos (if you have them)

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT FROM THE CLASSES?

  • Our classes begin with a quick warm-up session. Our warm-up routine includes a combination of mobility, flexibility, cardio and strength-building exercises.

  • Our warm-up routine is structured on the guidelines of pilates, yoga and mindful movement exercises.

  • The warm-up routine is followed by dancing, depending on which level of dance your class is at.

  • Theoretical knowledge of Odissi is built into every class, and we read through notes and write as we go. We do not follow a strict classroom structure as we believe that dance is taught best through practice.

  • Each class is concluded with a short cool-down session.
